Here I’m going to collect memories of flying trips. You can see these also as recommendations, in case you’re looking for some inspiration…
- Innsbruck, Austria
- Portoroz, Slovenia
Innsbruck, Austria
Not a recent trip really but my homebase. Pilots usually hear about Innsbruck at some point as it is known as a tricky airport to fly into, thanks to the high mountains surrounding the place.
The Alps, and all mountain ranges in general are extremely beautiful settings to fly, but tread carefully. If you have no experience with flying in the mountains, get an instructor for a proper introduction to this topic. There are plenty of traps you can walk into…

Portoroz, Slovenia
This was a private trip with a friend in a Diamond DA42. Portoroz is a nice little airport at the coast of Slovenia, right next to the border to Croatia. They have very good and friendly service there, and the old, scenic town of Piran is just about 15 minutes away by car. The field is short so commercial flights are not happening with jets, but it is a highly popular location for general aviation pilots from Austria and Germany. Definitely a recommended place to go.

In Piran we went to this restaurant called “Sarajevo 84” as the terrace was full of people. We were in the mood for seafood, and that’s the wrong place to find that. In the end we did not regret our decision, the grilled meat platter and the cheap house wine were excellent.
